Programme Overview

According to the Survey , ’India is classified in to the fifth most attractive retail destination and second among the countries in Asia. Worldwide it is ranked as fifth most attractive retail destination’. And The online retail market in India is estimated to be 25% of the total organized retail market and is expected to reach 37% by 2030. By 2034, it is predicted to surpass the United States to become the second largest e-commerce market globally. E-commerce has transformed the way business is done in India. The Indian E-commerce market is expected to grow to US$ 200 billion by 2026 from US$ 38.5 billion as of 2017. Much of the growth for the industry has been triggered by an increase in internet and smartphone penetration. As of September 2020, the number of internet connections in India significantly increased to 776.45 million, driven by the ‘Digital India’ program. Out of the total internet connections, ~61% connections were in urban areas, of which 97% connections were wireless.


E-commerce & Supply Chain Growth Drivers

A supply chain is the connected and interdependent system of individuals, organisations, resources, activities, and technologies, which completes the manufacture-sale-delivery cycle. It begins with the procurement of raw materials by a manufacturer and culminates in the sale and delivery of the product or service to the end user.

Owing to increased internet penetration in tier II and below cities, a report by Ken Research stated that the e-commerce industry of India is expected to grow exponentially in the near future. The industry is expected to register a positive five-year CAGR of 23.6% in terms of revenue during the forecast period FY’2020-FY’2025.

  • Higher demand emerges from tier-II cities due to cheap data plans, increase in usage of smartphones and increasing propensity to purchase online in these areas.
