M.Tech in Structural Engineering

Program Overview

This two-year M.Tech in Structural Engineering at Vikrant University, Gwalior has been developed for civil engineers who wish to construct modern infrastructures. Students will learn how to design and construct structurally sound, safe, and durable buildings, including long-span bridges, high-rise buildings and earthquake-resistant structures.

The goal of this programme is to produce structural consultants and design engineers who can analyse complex loads, select appropriate materials, ensure long-term structural integrity due to wind, earthquake and wear and tear, and provide ongoing structural support throughout the life of a building or other facility. The curriculum of M.Tech in Structural Engineering at Vikrant University is closely aligned with the needs of the industry, so that all students will have expertise in advanced computational design and Finite Element Analysis, as well as the ability to retrofit existing buildings with seismic protection, design reinforced concrete and steel structures, and use various advanced design techniques.

As a result of this experience ,students will build up not only technical skills, but also will improve their ability to innovate and create solutions using current environmentally friendly solutions for construction.

Admission Process

This programme accepts applicants who have B. E/B. Tech in Civil Engineering from any accredited University and have obtained a minimum 50% marks(for Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe 45 % Marks) in their degree, and who possess a GATE score card (students without GATE score are also allowed to apply through the University’s merit-based admission process and/or to interview).

Is Structural Engineering difficult?

Can I work outside India with this qualification?

Many Graduates of this programme will qualify under the guidelines set forth by organizations such as the "Institute of Structural Engineers and the European Standards of the Eurocodes and the American Concrete Institute (ACI)" when it is time for them to seek employment in the Middle East, Europe, etc. and many other parts of the world.

Is M.Tech in Structural Engineering better than Construction Management?

A Graduate of this programme will devote himself/herself to only mechanical principles while a Graduate of a Construction Management degree would focus primarily on Management and Planning functions while working at or away from the construction site.
